1.0.0.4 changelog - added multiplayer

A few upcoming changes were mentioned on the previous devlog and while I had most of these halfway done, they took a bit longer than I had antecipated. Since I didn't want to postpone any updates this early on the development cycle, I've managed to fit a lot of significative changes on a single version number. Upcoming patches might be divided into smaller and more focused on individual features and tweaks instead, so version numbers can be easier to track as well.

1.0.0.4 changes:

  • Added local co-op multiplayer! Press START at title screen to join, and select the 2 PLAYERS option. Players have their own individual score, combo bar and lives.
  • Added the "flag-and-frag" combo system! Collected flags and destroyed enemies will give away additional score that stacks up over time as long you keep the combo going. You can also shoot breakable walls to refresh the timer.
  • Shining enemies now drop the white flag, that gives more points than the normal, red ones. Powerup flags are instead awarded at the first time the players combined collect 5 flags, then the counter is reset and the breakpoint for the next powerup flag will require 5 more flags than the previous one. It does reset at the end of each stage, though.
  • Added 4 new enemies. They still share the same AI for the time being, but their entire movement system is being rewritten from the scratch and may be ready on the next update. However, they have different stats! Some of them will take a lot more than a single bullet to be taken down, and some might as well instantly vaporize your ship if you dare look then right in the eye.
  • Added 2 new levels with lot of stuff to break.
  • Completing each round will now add a random enemy to the enemy pool, increasing with every additional round.
  • It's now possible to remap controls (for both players) and change the game to fullscreen resolution on the title screen (it was already possible to do so with Alt+Enter, but I forgot to mention that, sorry y'all). However, the game still does not save changes when closing (this is also quick to fix, I just wanted to upload 1.0.0.4 already with all the promised features before moving on to move specific things).
  • Many graphical improvements to the tilesets, some enemy ships, and visual effects with the blue flag powerup now leaving a flame trail when active.
  • Added a bunch of sound effects for navigating with the menu, and normalized the volume of a few sounds.
  • Added version number on the bottom right corner of the title screen.
